This happened when the authorities opened the gates of the Jawai Dam, which is the biggest dam in western Rajasthan. When the gates were opened, water started moving into the dry river. Soon, the sound of flowing water returned, and the riverbed became full again.

The news spread very fast among the villages. People in areas like Umedabad & Keswana could see the water reaching their lands. For them, it was not just about water but about new hope. The flow of the river made people feel secure about their future. They knew that with the river flowing, farming would improve, wells would be filled, and animals would also get water. After so many months of waiting, this was like a new beginning for them.

Villager’s Celebration

The return of the river was not a small event for the villagers. They treated it like a festival. People came out of their homes to see the water moving in the river. Groups of villagers gathered near the riverbank. Many carried drums & metal plates, and they made music to show their happiness. Women wore colorful traditional clothes & danced. Children also danced and ran with joy. The whole atmosphere was full of excitement and togetherness.

Apart from dancing and music, people also performed rituals. They offered a chunri, which is a sacred cloth, to the river as a mark of respect. Incense sticks were lit, and people prayed with folded hands. They sang songs that had words of blessing and gratitude. These rituals showed how important the river is in their lives. Word of celebration spread quickly, and more and more villagers came to watch the flowing water. By the end, the riverbank was full of people enjoying the sight and praying for a continued water supply.

Benefit For Farmers

For farmers, water means life. The arrival of the Jawai River after two years gave them strong hope and confidence. Around 150 villages in Ahor, Jalore, Sayla, & Bagoda subdivisions depend on this water for growing their crops. Without water, farming is very difficult in Rajasthan, but now, with the river flowing again, they can plant and grow with less worry.

The fresh water will help in many ways. Fields will be easier to cultivate because irrigation will become possible. Many wells, which were dry earlier, are now getting filled again. Farmers said that this water will support them for at least the next two years. This means crops like wheat, millet, pulses, and vegetables can be grown in better conditions. The farmers expressed happiness because they no longer have to worry about failed crops due to water shortage. The return of the river is not just water; it is food, income, & survival for the whole farming community.

Areas Covered By Jawai River

The Jawai River has a wide reach. It flows through 41 villages & supports thousands of families. As it moves forward, it touches important areas like Ahor, Leta, Jalore, Safada, Keswana, Umedabad, Sayla, Bagoda, and Sanchore. Each of these villages has people who directly depend on the river for different needs. Some use it for farming, some for livestock, and many for drinking water.

The river is not limited to one or two villages. It connects a large part of the Jalore district. Its presence makes life possible in many places. Without the Jawai River, these areas would face very serious water problems. So, the flowing river is not only for local happiness but also for the long-term survival of this region.

Jawai Dam Water Release

The water in the river started because the Jawai Dam released it. The process was carried out carefully. On Monday, authorities opened gates number 2, 4, and 10 of the dam by one foot each. This allowed water to flow steadily into the river. The release was not random; it was managed step by step because of heavy rainfall in the region.

The rainfall was so heavy that an orange alert was given. To keep people safe, schools in the district were closed for the day. Transportation was also disturbed. For example, the Jalore–Jodhpur route had to be closed because the Sukdi River overflowed in Bhavrani village. Police were sent to important points to make sure no accidents happened. The authorities made safety their priority while releasing water into the river.
