This place was established as Jawai Bandh Leopard Conservation Reserve in 2008, before that local people used it for grazing their cattle and farming.

The people of the Rabari tribe have lived here for a long time, and they see leopards as special guardians of their local god. Jawai Leopard Safari is special because the leopards here behave differently, they do not harm villagers' cows or goats.
