Jawai Dam Water Levels Rise: Preparing For Gate Opening
Jawai Dam is the biggest water reservoir in Western Rajasthan. This dam is important for Marwar and Godwad. It gives water for drinking, farming, and helps in the daily needs of people in nearby towns and villages. Farmers, villagers, and even tourists keep a close watch on the water level of the dam. For farmers, the water decides how good their crop season will be. For villagers, the water level is linked with safety, because when the gates open, some villages near the river path face overflow risk. For tourists, the sight of a full dam increases the beauty of the area, especially for those who visit the famous Jawai Leopard Hills and enjoy the Jawai Safari experience.
Jawai Dam is not only for holding water. It helps thousands of people in their day-to-day lives. When its water rises, it brings both hope and caution. Hope, because more water means good crops and a better life. Caution, because overflowing water means the administration and people must be ready to stay safe.
Current Rain Situation
The monsoon this year has been very good for the Marwar and Godwad area. Many towns and villages in the belt are receiving regular rainfall. The rainfall is not the same every day. Sometimes it is light drizzle, and sometimes it is a heavy downpour. Still, the important point is that the rains are continuing and filling the rivers, ponds, and dams.
In towns like Sadri, Ghanerao, Bali, Desuri, Sumerpur, and Takhatgarh, rains have been reported again and again. Villagers are happy because their fields are getting enough water naturally. The rivers Panchanwa and Beda are also flowing strongly. A strong flow in these rivers means that the catchment area is active. The catchment area is where rainwater collects and moves toward the reservoir to fill it. Because of this strong flow, water is quickly reaching Jawai Dam and other nearby dams. This shows that the monsoon is helping to improve the water situation after many dry months.
Jawai Dam Water Level
On Tuesday evening at 5:00 PM, the water level of Jawai Dam was recorded at 57.20 feet. The maximum water level that the dam can hold is 61.25 feet. This means the dam is very close to becoming full. The total water storage capacity of the dam is 7327.50 MCFT. Out of this, 6232.00 MCFT has already been filled. Only around 1100 MCFT of space is left in the dam.
If the rainfall continues at the same rate, the dam will reach its full capacity soon. When this happens, the dam gates will need to be opened to release extra water. As of now, the administration expects that if the rains continue, the gates may have to be opened around 15 September. But this is only a possible date. If the rain becomes less, then the opening can be postponed. If the rain becomes heavier, then the opening may come even earlier. So the situation is under close watch.
Other Dams In The Area
The water situation is not only about Jawai Dam. Other nearby dams also have a lot of water. Sindru Dam is full at 18.25 feet and is near overflow. Bankli Dam’s water level is 10.40 feet and rising quickly. Sei Dam has filled up to 7 meters and is releasing nearly 70 MCFT of water every day into Jawai Dam.
This water makes the Jawai Dam fill faster. Kalibor Dam is also doing well, at 18.35 meters with 193.687 MCFT storage. These numbers show this monsoon is very strong in Western Rajasthan, filling all dams fast.
Review Meeting By Administration
Since Jawai Dam is almost full, the local administration held a meeting at the dam guest house. The meeting was led by the Sub-Divisional Officer of Sumerpur. People from the Shivganj administration, police, engineers, Nagar Palika, patwaris, and gram sevaks attended.
They talked about three main points: when the dam gates might be opened, how to keep villages safe in the overflow area, and how to send warnings to the public. The meeting made it clear that safety is the most important thing. Everyone must be prepared to protect lives and property.
Possible Gate Opening
The exact date of opening the gates depends fully on how the rain behaves. If the rain continues with the same strength, then around 15 September, the gates may be opened. But if rainfall reduces, then the opening can be postponed to a later date. If there is very heavy rain suddenly, then officials may open the gates even before 15 September. The administration and dam officials are staying alert day and night. They are prepared to take quick action as per the situation. The message for people is clear: be ready for any sudden release of water.
Impact On Farmers And Local People
For farmers, the increase in water levels is great news. They will have enough water for their crops, which means better harvests and less worry about dry land. Farmers in this area have had water problems for many years, but this year, full dams and strong rains have given them hope. They can plan their farming better now.
For villagers, there are two sides. They are happy to have water for drinking and daily needs. But if their homes are near places where extra water might flow, they need to be careful. Officials may ask some families to move to safe areas temporarily. Safety is important.
Connection With Tourism
People visit Jawai Dam, so besides water and farming use, it also plays a role in tourism for the area. Tourists come here from many places to see Jawai Leopard Hills and to take part in Jawai Safaris. Leopards are seen here many times, which makes this place already popular among visitors. With the dam now filled with water, the view becomes even more beautiful. Tourists who come for Jawai Safari not only enjoy watching leopards and other wildlife but also get to see the large water body and green surroundings. This makes their trip more enjoyable and memorable.
The full dam, the flowing rivers, the hills, and the wildlife together create a special experience. This is why many travel companies are expecting more visitors this season. The connection of water with tourism shows how Jawai Dam also helps the local economy. Farmers get water for crops, villagers get water for daily life, and tourists get a beautiful scene during their visits.
